Auto-Immune Disorders and Asian Medicine

Posted on Jan 17, 2012 in Health and Wellness

With over 22 million Americans affected by autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus, celiac disease and type 1 Diabetes we need to begin to look outside the box of conventional approaches to managing inflammatory disease.  While infections and environmental toxins may trigger these diseases medications such as immuno-suppressive drugs and steroids often lead to further complications and weakening the immune response to other health issues such as cancer and chronic fatigue. Asian Medicine which includes Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Nutritional therapy, Chi Exercises, Meditation, Health Coaching and Seasonal Cleansing may not only alleviate symptoms but provide a path to recovering one’s health.  Some of the benefits include: decreased fatigue, increased energy, better sleep and digestion, reduced stress and improved mood. Weekly or bi-weekly Acupuncture can reduce inflammation, decreasing symptoms such as joint pain, fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, depression and anxiety.  Oriental Nutrition principles incorporate many now known anti-inflammatory foods such as ginger, green foods, wild fish, ginger, garlic, turmeric, green onions and health oils such as sesame and flax. Tai Chi and Chi Gong exercises increase energy, immunity, improve mood, decrease stress hormones and strengthen bones, balance and coordination to mention a few of the many benefits. Seasonal cleansing with diet adjusted to fit individual needs by a qualified health professional, Chinese herbs, light exercises, sauna, dry brushing and herbal or coffee enemas are safe, inexpensive and effective ways to eliminate toxins which cause illness. Over my 25 years of private practice I have seen patients with everything from Rheumatoid Arthritis to Hashimoto’s, Graves Disease, Iritis, Lymphedema and the gamut of Auto-Immune diseases make nearly miraculous recoveries.  “I feel so much better” is the comment I hear daily from my patients. As the Yellow Emperor said it so well “It is better to dig a well before one is thirsty, forge weapons before going into battle, avoid conflict before it has begun and prevent disease before it starts.”  We can prevent many diseases by creating our best health through a natural unprocessed diet, exercise, cleansing and eliminating toxins and keeping our stress level low.  Having a regular maintenance program which includes Acupuncture, herbal tonics and medicines can prevent costly and painful serious illness and disease....

The power is within you to create a good and enriching life to benefit yourself, your family, your community and the world.
